The Tendril Giant is an massive, unusually shaped creature made by artist Trevor Henderson. It is a member of the infamous Giants, whom seek to destroy or ascend humanity. This one in particular has a special property that allows it to be that much more dangerous. It also reveals very interesting things regarding the Giants as a whole.
The depicted in the image shows a gigantic human-shaped creature that has arms that are almost as long and this as it’s legs. The torso of the creature is normal-sized, although it’s head appears to be disproportionately smaller than the rest of it’s body, and it almost appears to be exploding into small chunks. The rest of the creature's proportions do seem similar to that of a human's, though.
However, most intriguing part of this creature is that it appears to be entirely comprised of hundreds, possibly even thousands of intertwined tendrils, most of them being clumped together at the torso and head. It is unknown what these tendrils are made out of. Some have speculated them to be wires, vines or some other material.
All of it’s tendrils are dark gray in color, and it’s height is estimated to be around 300 feet tall or more, but this is only a rough estimate as we do not have anything nearby that we can compare it to.
Behavior and Origins
As confirmed by the caption, this creature is a member of the infamous Giants. While we do not know much about this particular creature's behavior, we can make assumptions on it based on how the other Giants behave. As such, we see that this monster seems to behave similarly to the other Giants, roaming around human-populated areas in order to collect or destroy them.
However, due to the properties of the creature’s tendrils appearing to be soft and thin, it may not actually be a cause for much destruction and only abducts worthy people without destroying properties or killing others, similarly to Remain Indoors. This would make it a Collection Giant.
The caption of the original post suggests that The Giants may have arrived on Earth via the appearance of a second Moon. It is unknown if they were inhabiting this second Moon and simply landed on Earth, or the second Moon actually summoned them. At this point, the humans seem to have already given up trying to find an explanation for the unusual second Moon, let alone the Giants.
Since it is unknown what materials it’s many tendrils are made out of, it’s hard to say if it is truly capable of mass destruction, however, we can tell that the tendrils are able to be detached from the intertwining and possibly be used to abduct worthy humans, like the other Giants. We can also see that it may be able to attract birds in some way, similarly to the Bird Watcher.
Another detail in the image is that it’s head seems to be exploding into smaller chunks. It’s unknown if this is an injury (self-inflicted or not) or a strange ability of the creature.
- It is the first humanoid Giant to also be a Collection Giant.
- It may be related to Breaking News or the Morning Walkers (besides being Giants, of course)
- Trevor said that he was partially inspired by the story "In The Hills, The Cities" when making this particular Giant.
- This is the first and only time The Giants are referred to as "the titans"
- Although, the words aren't actually capitalized here, so it may just be a description of the creatures rather than a direct name-drop.
- The Giant's head appears to be exploding into chunks, although it is unknown why this is happening.
- It is possible that it is being attacked by the humans in this image, which would make it the first time we actually see the humans attempting to fight back against a Giant.
